I notice that when I close BPB and open it again that the verse comparison defaults to single verse view. I have to click on the chapter or book. My preference would be for it to open to the largest unit possible with the current highlight verse in focus. Another thing is that I always expect the verse comparison to jump to the verse I have clicked on in the main window but it doesn't. That seems like it would be nicer if it stayed in sync with the main window. |

When BPB restarts, the
When BPB restarts, the version comparison should go back where it was.
I'll try to fix this soon.
The verse comparison should stay in sync with the main window, as long as you have the link button on the version comparison so that they are linked.
So, for example, if I am at Jeremiah 1:1 in the version comparison and Bible, and I go to Jeremiah 1:2 in the Bible window, it should go to Jeremiah 1:2 in the version comparison.
Currently syncing only works one way - from the main bible window to commentary and version comparison
Conceptually, there is a problem with the verse comparison view. It was initially intended for comparing lots of versions on one verse, and while it is able with the parallel view to compare lots of verses in a few versions, it doesn't really work well.

Ben, it seems like all the elements are there but that they don't work right. When I click on the green check button nothing happens and I have the link button pressed but things aren't staying in sync.
Even so, it's a nice looking format. I like the ability to exclude/include certain translations and have it refresh immediately. Also, search features work fine (if you have the right translation active in the main window).
Thanks for listening.
Does pressing the link button
Does pressing the link button again make it work as expected?
The green button should load the reference which is in the textbox of the version comparison (i.e. to its immediate left). If it isn't doing that, something is wrong...
In my tests, it seems to be working as I would expect.
That's not working for me.
That's not working for me. When I hit the green button it disappears for a moment and nothing changes. My loaded Bibles are ACF, NTLH, NETfree and WHNU. I'm running Vista on a Dell E5500.

Doy, I just figured out that we're talking about different buttons. I was referring to the one in the verse comparison box and you're talking about the one in the main window.
Still would like to see the verse comparison open to chapter view rather than verse when you move to a new book or reopen to program.
I've committed to SVN
I've committed to SVN slightly different behaviour for the verse comparison.
It now remembers where you were at when restarting.
Also, if you have it set to a range (say, Matthew 2:1-5), and you move the main window to Matthew 2:3, it recognizes it is already displayed and doesn't change it. This should make moving inside a chapter easier when you want version comparison on a per-chapter basis as well.
The other issue of making it default to a chapter view is a little harder to decide how to present to the user. The toolbar has really too much on it already...
Also, the chapter view can end up quite slow, so I didn't want to make it the default.
Compare verses vs. Parallel view
I doubt this is going to change any time soon, but the real answer is (I think) to separate the compare verses from a parallel view, since the likely purpose of compare verses is to compare a small number of verses in a large number of versions to look for alternative translations (and it can be very slow for a number of verses, as Ben mentions). On the other hand, a parallel view probably has a few versions in parallel, and you expect to read whole chapters in those few versions (and it's probably not nearly so slow). I think sometimes you want both, as well, which you can't do with BPBible as it is now.
