BPBible 0.4.5.1 Portable not working under Win7

Hi,

Noticed something strange. BPBible doesn't work on my Win7 64bit laptop, although the previous version worked under win vista 64bit. It starts, the splash is shown and then it shutsdown without warning or error. The same behaviour was seen on the winXP 32bit laptop of my wife. Both laptops have the latest updates installed.

I've tried running under a compatiblity. I went down to win98, but none was working. All the same behaviour. Splash screen is shown and then nothing happens. In the task manager I see bpbible.exe being started, but within a few seconds it is removed from the tasklist without wasrning or error.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

Probably bad configuration

Sounds like a BPBible initialisation problem, probably due to some corrupted settings. Could you please take a look at App\BPBible\errors.log (or it may be called error.log, I can't remember off the top of my head) and put the contents of it here? (Put it in a <pre> tag.)

You could also try reinstalling BPBible Portable with the installer, it won't lose any data. That would fix it if the App directory is corrupted, but I think it's more likely to be the Data directory. (You can rename/move the Data directory to see if that makes it start up, I suspect it will.)

Can't do that

I would if I could, but the entire directory doesn't contain a file called error something. I searched the entire BPBibleProtable directory. The only thing I found resembling somewhat of a logfile was called bpbible.exe.log. This file was empty however.

That's it

When it's a compiled version it gets called bpbible.exe.log, I'd forgotten that. If it's empty then no error is happening and it's some other cause... try installing BPBible Portable again, and if that doesn't help, renaming the Data directory.

Found the solution

I've tried your suggestions, but it didn't help. I finally tried to start BPBile inside a virtual PC running Win XP Professional SP 2. There rhe application worked like a charm. I started looking into the configuration differences between my virual PC and the laptop of my wife, running the same XP version, but not being able to run BPBible. I found the difference was in the virsusscanner. The virtual PC was running AVG, while the laptop of my wife was running BitDefender.

I started looking into the various settings of both applications. It turned out, that running BitDefender in game mode solved the problem. Why? I have no clue. I'll try to drop the question at BitDefender.

Thanks for the quick response and the help.

May the Lord bless you.

Vaya con Dios,
Kees

Strange

How strange. I'm glad you were able to work it out, that's something that I think I would have been looking at for quite a long time before possibly making a connection!
